Fall is upon us. It’s time for cooler weather, colorful leaves, and spooky decorations. We all want to be able to enjoy those things without having to worry about pest infestations. That’s why the team at PestNation has put together these four fall pest control tips.
1. Seal Your Home
The first step in preventing pests this fall is by stopping them from entering your home in the first place. Simply caulking any gaps or cracks in the exterior of your home can accomplish this. Examine the siding and exterior walls carefully because insects and rodents can enter through very small gaps. Steel wool is also a great option to block off any potential openings on the exterior of your property.
2. Reduce Moisture
Pests are drawn to moisture in large numbers. Attics, basements, and garages are particularly at risk because some organisms prefer a moist, humid environment. Use whatever means necessary to keep those areas dry. Additionally, a dehumidifier can help you manage the moisture in your home and keep it safe.
3. Place Screens on Vents
While exterior fractures and holes can be quickly patched, many times the less evident entryways go unnoticed. Pests may see pet doors, chimneys, and attic vents as open invitations. Put screens over any openings that cannot be closed up in order to prevent any creatures from visiting.
4. Tidy Up Outside
The perfect spot for pests to nest is in firewood. Store any garbage, firewood, or yard debris at least 20 feet away from the home. Watch your drainage system as well. A rodent or insect infestation can readily be brought in by pipes, open waterways, or gutters. Maintaining your outdoor space is a simple method to avoid any bug issues.
